Frequently Asked Questions
By connecting the chip card programmer to the USB port of your computer you will be asked automatically to install the drivers. You can find these either on the CD with the IVS software or on this website on the downloads pages.
The chipcard programmer has to be connected both to the serial port of your computer and on the PS-2 port. If one of these ports is not available on your computer you have to use the USB programmer.
Remove the chipcard and put it back in the keypad again.
Make sure that the card is placed with the chip upside when put in the keypad.

Did you install the drivers for the Base Station? When you connect the Base Station the computer will ask for the drivers automatically. Together with the Base Station a CD is supplied with with the drivers for the Base Station. You can also find these drivers on the software CD’s from version 4.2 and higher and they can be downloaded from the website. To find the drivers go to the download page.
- Is the Base Station connected to the mains? ONLY USE THE ORIGINAL POWER SUPPLY THAT COMES WITH THE SYSTEM!!!
- Is the Base Station connected to the computer with serial or USB cable?
- Do you use a conversion cable for a serial Base Station to a USB port on your computer?
- Did you install the drivers for the conversion cable. A CD with the drivers is supplied with the cable.
The base station is the receiver of the Interactive Voting System. When you make your choice on the voting pad your voting pad is sending a signal to the base station. The base-station collects the votes and transfers them to the IVS voting software.
- Are the keypads fully charged? Keypads have to be charged minimum 3 hours. The leds on the keypads must be continous red.

The Functionality of the base-station is changed. The keypads are initialized in NEW FUNCTIONALITY and now the base-station is in STANDARD Functionality or vice versa. This means test network will function, but the keypads do not open and you cannot vote with the keypads. Put the keypads back in the charging cases and turn the power on, wait 3 minutes and initialize again.
This means your keypads are equipped with the latest software. This number MUST show during Test Network. Keypads that do not show this number during Test Network have an older version of the software.
- Are the RFII keypads fully charged? Keypads have to be charged minimum 5 hours. The leds on the keypads must be continous green.

You can download a demoscript for every software package. You can find the demoscripts on the download page of the website.
You can add images to your scipt. Images with the formats .bmp, .jpg, .emf, .wmf and .ico are supported.
You can select multiple objects by holding down the CTRL-key and clicking on them. You can use the icons at the botton of the screen to align the objects, the last selected object determines the position.
In Basic version 4.x you can select several objects by drawing a frame around the objects you want to select.
The legend texts are based on the answer texts. If your answers do not contain any text, the legend text is automatically set from 0 to 9.
If you use Basic 4.x you do not have to fill in the answers. Simply indicate that you want your audience to make a choice of 1 to …. The software will now automatically create a diagram with these answer options.
In the Edit screen you can change the chart by changing the chart type in the properties of the result. If you want to change the chart during a presentation you can use the icons at the bottom of the screen or you can press the keys V (vertical), H (Horizontal), L (line) or P (Pie). In version 4.x you should use the V, H, L and P keys in combination with the Shift Key!
By selecting import, examples results from the menu file, you can import example results. Now you can cross and compare questions. this way you will get a good impression of your script.
In version 3.5*: Select properties from the menu by clicking with right mouse button on the question, click the tab barcolors. You can set the bar colors for the answers.
In version 4.*: Select the template slide in the bottom of your screen. Click with the right mouse button on the diagram en choose the tab “colors”. Here you can select the colors for your bars and apply them to all slides. If you want to change the colors of only one diagram you can change the colors for each answer.
Select properties from the menu by clicking the right mouse button on the answer. You can set the legend text of the answer.
> Application: If answers contain to much text for placing them under a chart, you can use this option to shorten the legend text.
You can place a result on the next slide. You can add a result to a new slide after making the questions and the answers. In the properties of the result you can select the question belonging to the result.
> Application: If you want to show the results after discussing them.
In the properties of the question you can select whether you want to use a ranking. The answer which is chosen most will be displayed on top or at the most left of the chart.
Click with the right mouse button on an answer, select properties from the pop-up menu. Select the checkbox for correct answer and click OK.
You can vote up to 50 times on a question. By selecting the option unlimited, you can vote as long as the voting is open, only the last vote is saved.
The RFII keypad has the possibility to use a maximum of 999 answers per question. The RF-Lite keypads goes up to 10 answers.
A rating question shows besides the results also the average and deviation. You can use a rating question to measure the appreciation of your audience. By making a crossing you can show the consensus within a group.
You can compare questions of the same type and with the same number of answers.
By making a crossing you can see what people with the same characteristic (for example: in the age of 30 to 40 years) have voted. You will gain more insight into the opinion of your audience. You can view the different characteristics by pressing ctrl+1, ctrl+2 etc.
A reference question is a multiple choice question in which you ask your audience which characteristic they have. You can use this information to make a crossing. You can see for example what people in the age of 30 to 40 years think of your proposition.
You can freely use the software upto 30 keypads. There are two licences, one for a maximum of 250 keypads and one for a maximum of 4000 keypads.
You have to use IVS-ID. Every participant receives a chipcard with an unique number. After the session a print-out can be made containing all the participants, the answers they have given and the number of correct answers for each participant.
By using interactive voting, the results are directly displayed in the chart after receiving a vote.
I can not initialize more then 30 voting pads. You do not have a keylock connected to your computer.
Close the program en connect the keylock. If the keylock was already connected to you computer and you can not initialize more then 30 voting pads, the keylock is not valid for this version of the software. You can verrify this by selecting about, in the help menu

The keylock contains the licence. Without the keylock you can only use upto 30 voting pads.
You have the possibility to enter a fixed result. The values most be in absolute figures (no digits). The program will automatically calculate the value in terms of percentage. You can not vote on a question with a fixed result.

A timebar can be used to automatically run the voting. In the properties of the timebar you can set after how many seconds you want to open the voting, after how many seconds you want to close the voting and after how many seconds you want to go to the next slide.

If you want to view the results of a previous session, you select import results from the file menu. Select the right session by clicking on the session folder and clicking OK.
The keylock contains the licence. Without the keylock you can only use upto 30 keypads.
You do not have a keylock connected to your computer. Close the program en connect the keylock. If the keylock was already connected to you computer and you can not initialize more then 30 keypads, the keylock is not valid for this version of the software. You can verrify this by selecting about, in the help menu.

The keypads communicate with the Base Station by using radio signals. Both keypads and Base Station have a receiver and a transmitter which they use to communicate.
It is recommended that you always save a list with keypads. You can use a list with keypads to restore the communication. If the power fails during a session, you can activate the keypads again by using the list.
You can use more than one Base Station. The number of Base Stations you can use depends on the number of USB ports in your computer. If you want to use more Base Stations you must select a channel for each Base Station. You can connect a USB hub to connect more Base Stations than you have ports available on your computer. We do strongly advise to use a powered USB hub.
You can change the channel before initializing the keypads. If you already initialised the keypads, you CANNOT change the channel. The keypads are active on the selected channel. If you change the channel the keypads can not be used during the session.
